Good News Club met again today: I was able to talk with two kids, let's call them Susy and Bob. I was sitting on the floor with the 3rd grade making sure that they stayed at a level of mobility below disruptive while the lesson was being presented. During this time I was able to talk with Susy a little bit, she's excited to come to the club and has been showing some initiative by working through her lessons throughout the week between meetings. Both relatively and individually speaking she's well-behaved; today she had a few questions to ask. I didn't have a whole lot of time to converse with her, but it was cool to be able to explain to somebody that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day (I didn't think to mention that it was the same as her grade) and watch her reaction as she heard that story for the first time.
I was also able to speak with Bob for a while during counseling time (one-on-one with students while assistants manage the rest of the kids). He'd never heard a complete plan of salvation before, so I shared with him using the wordless Bible as an attention getter/locomotive of thought. He guessed gold (heaven) with prompting and red (Christ's blood) right away. I explained the rest as we walked through the different colors. He paid very close attention to what I was saying, but the conviction and true realization of his sin necessary for salvation just weren't really there. If you think to, pray that a way would be provided for him to attend a true church. Right now he attends "church" at his granny's place where they anoint themselves in oil and "speak in that other language, you know?" It sounded pretty heavily soaked in the Charismatic movement from the way he described it. The chance to speak with both of them paid for my efforts in the club today.
This evening was uneventful for myself except I posted a new essay, "On The Integration Of Electronics" on the writing blog and continued to trudge through Latin. The rest of the family went to a concert hosted by our tiny church. The little guys sounded like they were quite the handful, but I think it was worth their time and effort to go from what I heard about it. I'm hoping to finish memorizing 1 Peter 1 by Sunday, I've only got a couple of verses left.
Today I'm thankful for: 1) being able to speak with "Susy" and "Bob", 2) tacos for dinner (Mexican rocks!), 3) a computer mouse that's fun to play with, 4) a mild winter, and 5) the sky to remind us of how small we are if we can figure out a way to compare ourselves to God.
Joke of the day:
A woman stepped up to a travel desk and asked for a round-trip ticket.
"Where to?" asked the agent.
The woman looked offended. "Right back here. Where do you think?"
