Books & Bowling

This morning seemed to drag along for quite some time, but the arrival of my textbooks threw a little pep into it. My next set of Latin tests came in, so I took the first today and am now progressing through the subject again after coming to a standstill for a few days. I also got my math and science books, both are a good deal less challenging then the other books I've used throughout high school and that is nice. The math is a business math course and the science is astronomy; they are very interesting and well written, especially the science. Based on today's estimates (50-60 hours a week) I should be able to finish both books about a month sooner than I expected, so that will leave more time for monetarily paid labor this summer which is great!

Good News Club met again today and it went better than it has in a while as far as the organization. The kids were a little on the rowdier side, but it all worked out. The lesson was on Absalom and had a skit to boot; the kids got a kick out of seeing the son of one of the helpers dressed up as Absalom with long black hair. Towards the end we split the grades into first and second and then third through fifth and played games with them. I helped out with the upper level and we played bowling. We used an oversized, squishy bouncy-ball or something like that for the bowling ball and painted half-gallon juice containers as pins. It was fun watching them try to hit the pins; some of the kids would try to roll the ball really fast and hard and it would end up bouncing right over the pins, but others caught on and rolled it close to the ground not quite as hard in order to hit the pins more accurately.
Things to be thankful for: 1) getting my new books in, 2) numeric keypad on my computer (lots of use coming with the math book), 3) being able to help out at GNC this year, 4) yummy cabbage, sausage, veggies stir-fry for dinner tonight, and 5) my mom's progress on WW4 cleanup in our house after the recent/during the on-going building projects.
Joke of the day: Two parents were sorting out the details of a fight between their children. After a few moments of chaos, as both youths simultaneously shouted versions of what had occurred, the parents called for quiet and asked them to report in turn.
"It all started," explained Dennis, trying to sound calm, "when Jeremy hit me back."
