This morning I was able to put most of the finishing touches on the slideshow presentation that I've created from photos and footage that I shot while we were on vacation at the beginning of January. All of the video clips, pictures, transitions, titles, background music, and DVD menus are in place and fully edited, the last thing to do is await the arrival of the anaglyph 3D glasses that I ordered online today and then convert the presentation from 2D to 3D. It will be my first slideshow in the third dimension; I have high hopes. I'm going to be sending out a bunch of copies of the DVD to people we saw while on vacation, so I bought two types of glasses today. I got one really good pair (all of them are fairly cheap regardless of quality though) for myself since I'll be using them a lot more often as I compose this slideshow and others in the future, and then I also got a box of 50 cardboard ones like what you would use in a theater for anyone I show it to and also to mail out with the DVDs. Hopefully they will be in the mail sometime towards the end of next week; if not, then two weeks from now.
This evening I started the essay for the GE-Ronald Reagan scholarship, its $40k over 4 years and a really big deal. Last year was their inaugural year and I think they had over 3,500 applicants of which only 22 were chosen. The competition is tough, but I think I have a fighting chance. The 500-750 word essay targets leadership and service in my schooling, job, and community, as well as in the future. I'll post it on the Writing blog when it's finished. I am really thankful for the writing course that I am taking right now, it is amazing; using skills and methods I learned in the book, I outlined the entire essay down to keywords and phrases for almost every sentence in about 35 minutes tonight! I have zero regrets about choosing this book, it's phenomenal and I'll be taking it along to college in case I need a refresher eventually.
Speaking of college, I'm waiting to hear back from the Financial Aid office and the Registrar's office about questions I asked them. They've been great about getting back to me in a very punctual manner, so it shouldn't be too long before I hear from them. Had to chuckle when I found a page on their website about golf-cart driving regs; I didn't even know they allowed students that luxury on campus!
Things to be thankful for today: 1) a good joke book to make my readers groan every time they read my blog, 2) only one more day left to go until we meet with our prayer group tomorrow night, 3) being able to can apples and pears this past summer so that I can bring two from-scratch pies tomorrow night, 4) the influences and challenges God has placed in my life over the past 3 1/2 years to mature me, and 5) a yummy, scrumptious roast chicken and noodle dinner tonight!
Joke of the day: Queen Victoria was the longest queen. She sat on a thorn for sixty-three years. Her reclining years and finally the end of her life were exemplary of a great personality. Her death was the final event which ended her reign. The sun never set on the British Empire because the British Empire is in the east and the sun sets in the west.
The nineteenth century was a time of many great inventions and thoughts. The invention of the steamboat caused a network of rivers to spring up. Samuel Morse invented a code of telepathy. Louis Pasteur discovered a cure for rabbis. Charles Darwin was a naturalist who wrote the Organ of Species.
