My Poor Arteries

This morning was the Men's Bible Study & Prayer Breakfast at our other church. It's a great time of fellowship and artery clogging; I think I out-clogged all of them this morning with 4 giant biscuits, 6 or so pieces of bacon, 1 sausage, and 3 helpings of scrambled eggs! Pork is not part of my regular diet, but I make occasionally allowances and also rationalized it with today's work. Each month we all gather together to study and discuss a portion of God's Word. So far we've walked through 1 Samuel, and this was our second time in 2 Samuel.
The man from the church has been leading the study has been suffering due to illness for some time now and I think has had some spiritual battles going on as well. So, the pastor led the study kind of off-the-cuff, he had found some notes and questions on chapter 1 and brought those for us to use as conversation prods. We had an interesting time discussing the death of Saul in battle and the subsequent death of the Amelekite who boastfully laid claim to the murder of Saul. The Amelekite brought the crown and jewels to David expecting something better than an immediate execution, but hey, life's tough.
I spent most of the rest of today clearing brush for one of my clients/customers/whatever-you-call-those-people-who-call-you-to-fix-their-problems. There is about an acre of solid jungle that I've been steadily eliminating; I now have an estimated eight full days of work or so to finish the job. Due to some major schooling time constraints, I have no idea what the completion date will be. This job has gone much faster so far than the last job I had like this, I have a commercial grade chainsaw and blower that are awesome, and a weedeater. The weedeater, although a lowlier brand, has been a real trooper putting up every bit of abuse I've been able to dish it. I bought a brush-cutting attachment for it, but it didn't work well enough for me, so I switched the blade out with an edging blade (benefit of pointed corners which cut better). That didn't cut it for me either, so I finally ended up spending some time playing with the head this past summer and was able to affix a carbide-tipped circular saw blade. That baby does the trick! With a new blade you can't even feel it cutting the brush it's so fast. Reality check, I think I like tools and gadgets way too much LOL
Arrived home and worked on scholarships a bit, but then watched Dolphin Tale with the family and had pizza with root beer. Not even the baby blood cells can fit through my arteries now. The movie was based on the real story of a dolphin which was stranded on the beach, had to have its tail amputated due to injuries, and was fitted with a prosthetic. Somebody thought it was a great storyline and movie-ized it, producing a very professional film. I enjoyed it as did the rest of my family.
I'm looking forward to the Lord's Day tomorrow, but I'm still thankful for today: 1) progress on the work project, 2) ability to see the men of the church and fellowship with them, 3) my tools :), 4) our eccentric February weather (high today was 69, tomorrow is 77), and 5) a good, clean movie for our family to watch.
Today's joke: A stranger frantically ran up to a farmer's house, pounded his fist on the door, and demanded, "Where's the nearest railroad station, and what time's the next train to the city?"
The farmer came to the screen door and thought a moment. "Cut through my back hayfield, and you ought to reach the crossroads station in time for the 5:40. Actually, if my bull spots you, I expect you'll make the 5:15."
