Latina Est Gaudium!

This morning my dad and brother put up the first of two partition walls for my brother's new room. My dad pre-cut most of the boards a couple days in advance, and so today they assembled the lumber, erected the wall, insulated for a sound barrier, and attached the drywall. My brother remarked that it was indeed a BEDroom because the bed literally fills the entire room right now with about a foot of walking space left on two sides. Once the loft is built and the bed is raised up off the floor there will be more room, but for the time being there isn't. The dimensions are something like 7 feet by 5 or 6 feet.
As my dad was installing the screws for the wall, the drill bit he was using began to
strip (or twist and bend). That's definitely not unheard of but it is unusual, usually the screw strips. At any rate, he borrowed my impact driver to secure the wall and install the drywall. I think that he thinks that it is his new toy now and I must say, I enjoy using the tool every bit as much as he does. Google "ehow impact driver vs. drill" to learn the techy side, but its basically a tool that does the same thing as a drill or screwgun but with much less work for the operator. It's a great invention!
While they were building the wall, I was buried in Latin. Today's title means "Latin is fun!", and this week's vocabulary unearthed a couple of the most humorous vocabulary entries so far. "Dexter" is one of the entries and it means right or right hand. English derivatives would be "dexterity" (coordination) and "ambidextrous" (ambi [both] + dextrous [right] = both right hands, or two good hands). The next entry was "sinister", Latin for left, left hand, unfortunate, or ill-omened. Ancient Romans were highly superstitious and believed that good luck came from the right and bad luck approached from the left, therefore their hands were named accordingly. I, of course, proceeded to show this find to my mom and sister -- both of whom are left-handed!
Tonight was the first time we attended the Wednesday night prayer meeting since we've been back from vacation. When we left everybody would meet at the church for prayer time, but it changed at the beginning of the new year to being divided into south, middle, and north groups meeting in homes. We're in the south group, so we headed over the house where we are going to be meeting for the time being and had a community-effort lasagna dinner before prayer time. Prayer time was great; it was divided up into three segements: praise/adoration, kingdom advancement, and local body. We had a great time of fellowship and intercession before the throne of God, I'm looking forward to next week.
I've now memorized through verse 19 in 1 Peter 1 and am a solid week ahead of schedule so far... I may be trying to finish by the end of May instead of mid-July. Tomorrow begins my forays into Revelation 2, a new frontier for our Bible study. As a result of a book my mom checked out from the library, I've decided to begin logging five things each day that I am thankful for: 1) school - to learn dedication and commitment, 2) sunshine - to see the beautiful colors of creation, 3) food - just because it's awesome, 4) automobiles - to get to places like prayer meetings that would otherwise be too far away, and 5) believers - for encouragement in each other's spiritual lives.
Joke of the day: A church bulletin item announcing a covered dish supper concluded: "Prayer and medication to follow."
