Our church had a guest pastor in this week for our missions focus weekend. Our family did not find out until this past week that the event was taking place this weekend, so we were not able to attend the service on Saturday. Today the guest pastor spoke to us about missions efforts in a certain foreign country, where he had recently been on a preaching/missions trip. It was a very inspiring reminder to
continue in prayer for other believers around the world and a good time to learn about the need for more missionaries. My golden nugget to remember is that you will not feel a burden for the lost and for missions unless you are interested. Now that seems pretty simple, but unless you take the time to learn about missionaries and what they are going through as well as try to find out more about the lost world and how badly they need the gospel, you won't be moved to bring it to them or to help/encourage/become a missionary. I often wondered why I was not so convicted about sharing the gospel as I know I ought and have prayed for the Lord to instill that desire in my heart. I have not been convicted because I haven't really cared about the people I was bringing it to. I need to make a concerted effort to understand their position in eternity; I haven't been looking far enough beyond my bubble.
This afternoon we were able to Skype with our Aunt. That was fun, the little guys enjoyed seeing her dogs, and it was nice to see her face to face. I was also able to make fairly significant progress on this week's Bible study lesson (see Revelation blog) and make it up through verse 16 in 1 Peter (that's four verses for today!).
