The Good News Club had a leader conference/seminar today. It was hosted by the lady who leads GNC for our local school and designed for all the leaders to show up, but only myself and one other leader besides the hostess showed. The speaker has been working with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) for more than the past thirty years and had a lot of experience and information to share.
He talked to us and explained a few new methods of presenting the gospel. The focal point of the meeting was to really get the wordless book tool I'll say "figured out" for lack of a better wording. We all were familiar with the book, had seen it many times, and knew what it basically said, but he and a one hour DVD we watched extensively elaborated on the tool. It was interesting to see how to use the wordless book for many different witnessing opportunity and/or situations, it can do some serious multitasking!
When I got back to the house, I uneventfully mowed and trimmed the front half of our lawn. The weeds have been conquered! Then we all sprawled around the den and watched Amish Faith, an excellent movie based on the real Amish school shooting several years ago. I won't spoil the movie for you, but it's definitely worth watching and contains a great message. If you like to boo-hoo while watching movies, you'd really enjoy this film; I'm not one of them, but just sayin'.
My junior year of highschool is now officially finished with my last Latin test being completed today! Monday starts Latin II though, so it's not like anything really changes. While Latin has not been anything near my most favorite subject ever, it has really shaped and defined me as a student. I've developed language study skills through much, much trial and error with different methods I've tried in my search for effortless language learning (wish me luck, languages come to me but not easily). I plan to take some pretty heavy doses of Greek and Hebrew in Bible college as I prepare for a Bible teaching career, and the determination and study skills that Latin has outfitted me with ought to prove great boons for my upcoming endeavors. I took most of Spanish 1 a couple years ago, so I do have something to compare Latin to and Latin, due to its highly inflected nature, is much more challenging. For example, in English you say "this", "these", "that", and "those" and in Latin you say the same things but in 72 various forms that mostly only differ by the last two or three letters. Despite the challenges, it has been great to learn so much of the rich Latin history of English, many words and word roots make much more sense now that I understand their background. I feel like a discovery sleuth unearthing little bits of evidence as I hunt down the Latin meanings at times :)
Today I'm thankful for: 21) being finished with 11th grade, 22) beating the weeds, 23) a great time in personal prayer today, 24) the opportunity to even consider attending college 2,500 miles away from home, and 25) a safe ride around town in my truck (none of the tires fell off after rotating them two days ago).
Joke of the day: The University of Alabama football team played Harvard. At a party after the game, an Alabama player approached a girl and asked, "What school do you go to?"
"Yale," the girl replied.
"Okay, WHAT SCHOOL DO YOU GO TO?"

I am thankful for 11th grade, but I posted that I was thankful for being FINISHED with 11th grade. It was one of the hardest, if not the hardest, school years I've ever had. So now I am thankful that I was able to overcome it and am moving on with life.
